Day 33- Been There, Done
That
So following David’s triumph over
Goliath, King Saul sees how much the people love and
admire David and he begins to grow jealous. The jealousy
grows into a fear that David will take his throne
from him. A distressing spirit is also sometimes coming
upon Saul and it seems to drive him into a mad rage,
trying to seek and kill David.
I started reading in chapter 18 of 1
Samuel, but I just kept reading. I was trying to see
where Saul’s pursuit of David was going and
if there was something that stood out to me. It wasn’t
until I finished chapter 22 that something dawned
on me. During this whole crazy pursuit where David
is fleeing and dodging spears, he has done nothing
wrong. The question is continually asked of Saul,
what iniquity has been found in David that he deserves
death? Saul has no answer he is just very angry and
jealous and afraid.
Does this remind you of anyone? Jesus
was taken in the night and put to death, and no iniquity
was found in Him. There are definitely times in my
life when I haven’t done anything wrong, but
it feels like the world is out to get me. You know
those times when nothing is going according to plan,
roadblocks are everywhere and people seem to stand
against you wherever you go and whatever you do. David’s
been there too, and Jesus even more so. It is amazing
to think that God Himself knows exactly how we feel
because He has been there, too. This week had some
rough bumps in the road, but I wasn’t going
through it alone. I met two knew friends that were
on that rough journey with me. I wish that they didn’t
have to go through the things I was going through,
but since we were going through it together, it actually
allowed us to form a tight little bond, a connection
we may not have had otherwise. We have that connection
with God- He’s been down this road before us.
He’s been tempted the way we are tempted. The
world tried to stop Him and take Him out of the picture.
But the great part is, He overcame the world. “These
things I have spoken to you, so that in me you may
have peace. In the world you will have tribulation,
but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world.”
(John 16:33)
Lord,
Thank You that we don’t have to feel alone in
this world and during the hard times that we face.
You’re not just giving us lip service and saying
you understand how we feel, You KNOW how we feel because
You have been there before us. Thank You for not only
understanding, but for being our rock and comfort
in these times. Thank You that we can count on You
because You have already overcome the world.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
